Tony Belgrave ~ (Mr Master Chef himself) 'Tuck Shop T'
Tony joined our staff team September 05 and it was soon realised that he had a passion for healthy eating and cooking. It worked perfectly when a position became vacant that Tony was encouraged to apply. He was successful and our children and staff team haven't looked back since! Tony's meals are renowned at Hornimans. Tony also grew up as a child on the playground. Another one of Lorna's children from the past. Beneficial to the parents and the existing children to see that Hornimans encourages, supports and employs ex members of the playground and people who live in the local community.

He works closely with the children in deciding what menus to provide for the daily tuck shop. Look out for the 'Can't Cook, Won't Cook' challenges we hold each holiday! (lorna's team always wins).

We do not sell sweets and Tony encourages and promotes healthy eating by cooking up a storm with fabulous dishes, smoothies and fruit salads! He works with a different child/ren each day so that they are able to experience, learn and create great menu's together! His staff portions leave a lot to be desired *rolls eyes*, As Tony says, 'The children come first and lorna.... You have to leave the staff wanting more....' No lies there then Tony!!! *wink* : )

Monique Lewis ~ Sessional

Mon has worked at Hornimans for the past two years as a sessional/Summer worker. She grew up in the area but didn't use Hornimans as a child (there's always one that lets the side down).

Louise Vaz ~ Mentor

Louise AKA Weezy has worked at Hornimans for the past fourth years as a sessional/summer worker. Weezy is also at Uni studying a BA Black History. She is very popular worker with the teenagers who use the site. Weezy also was a member of Hornimans as a child, along with her brothers, she often popped down in holiday periods with her aunty!

As Mentor Louise's role is to support and encourage our children and young people to get involved, explore ways to encourage them to participate and develop creative programme's but also to help them with life skills, referral to other organisations, liaise with schools and relevant organisations.

Weezy's focus is on the children having a voice at Hornimans, she is responsible for the Young people's forum and also the Summer discussion forums which take place each week in the Summer period. It is important for Hornimans Staff not to pay lip service to consultation of children and young people. Weezy actively ensures that our young people have their say and are continuously making a positive contribution by encouraging all to speak freely, encourage freedom of expression and creativity and have their say to make changes at Hornimans and in their own lives. Louise is fully aware of how success raises self esteem and achievement and aims to support and encourage Hornimans children and young people to move forward in a positive way in their lives.

Lorna Stucki ~ Senior Worker
Lorna has worked with children and young people in many different organisations since 1987 where she first started working as an outreach arts worker for Neasden Community Workshops. She started out as a volunteer at Hornimans in 1989, worked her way in the early years to sessional and cover worker to full time worker, Deputy, to her present role as Senior Worker! A natural Drama Queen at heart Lorna's skills are in Drama and her beloved arts and crafts of various mediums 'throw me a bag full of scrap, glue and some cardboard and I'll make you a castle' . HA!!

Lorna eventually wants to end her days riding an old fashioned bike covered with plastic flowers and basket to hold her cat Lilly, whilst wearing a tweed suit, brogues and a trilby with a feather poking our of it. Riding up and down some vague village green in the middle of nowhere!

Happy to work with a great team of workers who all collectively have great skills to pass on to the children. She has a great belief in what young people can achieve and how important it is to develop the links with other child, youth care professionals in the locality to prevent an over lapping of service and to create support networks for those who work in the same field!

Pierre Lansiquot ~ Deputy Worker
Pierre took over from Dean as trainee Deputy worker and has wowed the children with his vocal sessions and energy in and outside of the playground.  He has already come up with some new fresh ideas to invigerate the children and we look forward to a brilliant New Year with Pierre on board.

Johnny Vaz ~ The Art Doctor
Johnny came onboard for his work experience, he never left! Johnny was one of three young people from the local area who had a strong interest in volunteering for Hornimans. The two other young people moved on to other interests whilst Johnny stayed on, thankfully! He's at six form college studying his A levels in Graphic design, English and Mythology. We take great care of our volunteers at Hornimans and make sure that they are well supported and also have opportunities to train. Johnny enjoys working with the younger children, his specialty is in cartoon design and creation. A very talented young man!

JoJo
Our young volunteer has a great passion for dance. JoJo runs a weekly dance workshop at Hornimans.  The children can’t get enough of it.  JoJo began as student on work experience a year ago.  He loved it so much, he decided to stay on as a volunteer whilst he completes his studies.  One of the winner’s of this years RBK&C's prestigious Apollo Awards for his volunteer efforts at Hornimans, JoJo is an asset to our playground.  Local talent and hansom to boot!

Gary Monks ~ Play worker
Gary will always greet you with a cheeky grin and a football under arm. Gary also grew up on this playground and spent many happy days bugging the workers with his humour and cheek! As you can see from his photo, Gary likes to dress up and share his Stetson with colleague and friend Tony.  We encourage creativity of the children who use this adventure as well as that of the staff team. And boy does Gary like to express his creative side!

coco1.jpg

Our famous goat Coco, [CoCo Jones's Diary - Yes, that film was based on our goat and her personal diarues which someone stole and sold to the papers - only they didn't think a goat would go down too well with the world wide public and replaced CoCo with a human] She is A very special goat indeed.  So much so, she has her own desk, telephone and swivel chair in her goats pen.  She runs the big game from her hut amongst straw and goat food!

Dean decided to leave Hornimans at the end of August.  He's still around and will be popping in during the years to come.  We wish him well in his new job as a Jockey on the famous filly Jamarilla Esquilladream.
