The Adventure Playground

It's big, it's bright and at the moment we are waiting for the second phase of the rebuild to some of structures. which begins on the 6th July until the 17th July.  After a short wait to ensure that the structures are ready for play, you will be welcomed on site for a chance to play in a safe, fun environment, supervised by trained staff.  So  the look is changing and all based on designs that our children chose for their playground in a long process over a few months.

Bright murals designed by our children and amazing, challenging structures for you to play on. Is your heart beating yet? Are you screaming at your Mum and Dad and pulling at their arms dragging them to
North Kensington just so you can experience this wonderland? Well you should be, because you're missing out!

Let me tell you a little bit more about what we have here at Hornimans. The best way is to show you photo's of the playground of how it once was and pop on back for the up date of the website with images of the new structures in the next few weeks.

One child visiting Hornimans was told by his worker when finding handful's of bark in his pocket ~ 'Put the bark back, you can't take the magic with you!

Take a look at the pictures throughout our website.

Yeah, but do you have any swings?

Yes we do! We have a few on the adventure. The small border swing is like a training swing for the younger age group. This one gives under 8's the opportunity to learn how to jump onto a rope swing, but also helps raise confidence to move onto the larger swings.

The big border at the back of the playground. Long and fast, this one will have you and your friends screaming as you border each other and swing for your lives!

We have the Tango, a swing which turns the nicest children into contenders for the tango Olympics! It's wild, it's fast and it's all about Chaser's Rules! Can anyone tell you what the rules are? Not really, as children grow older and move on, the rules develop and change, but the one thing you need to know is... The rules are made by you!

Ariel Runway will be faster, better, stronger - our own bionic swing...

The Infamous tyre swing had to be removed because of its age and in its place we have a large pyramid with a crazy tunnel slide. But to replace the tyre swing, the children wanted something on a much crazier level and on the 6th July, The See Saw Carousel swing will shake you to the bone! as it will be placed in its new home on the playground, available to use in the summer holidays.  This one is made up of ten tyre s all of which join together and hang by chains.  It see saws, it spins, it is a true bone shaker of a ride. For the younger children, the joy of this swing comes from spinning fast, or by swinging high and using it as a meeting space just to lie back and watch the clouds go by. It's a swing for all abilities and all ages and will be used easily by younger/older children and children with disabilities.

The other new structures will be a double hammock swing and a cross scale balancing swing.  Excited?  We are too.  More updates will be made available as we have new images.

Under 5's
I want to explain why we are not able to allow under 5's onto the structures. The outside adventure is an amazing play space for children aged between 5 and 16 years. Why no under 5's it has been asked? We are not insured for under fives and Ofsted have registered us as a 5 - 16 years out of school provider. As much as many parents feel that their child is able to use such large structures and swings, in our experience we know that many aren't. We make it clear to visiting parents/guardians that we welcome the under 5's visits, especially if they are happy to pet Coco our goat. But the thrill of seeing such a colourful, exciting space usually causes tears when they little people are told that they can't use it.

We provide special days when the playground is closed to welcome you and your under 5's and show you around. It helps prepare your child for the time to come when they are of an age to use this play space. We don't want to deny any child the right to experience Hornimans Adventure Playground. So we offer this welcoming point of contact for parents and your children, who may be a little wary of this environment because of it's size and being so different to what your child knows. We are aware of what a space such as this can provide a child, we don't want you to miss out on that. Please feel free to contact us and pop in to have a chat.

A vibrant exciting place for any child to develop their skills physically, mentally and socially whilst being safe, monitored by qualified staff.

We undergo rigorous health and safety checks each year and to keep the adventure a safe and exciting place we do daily site checks and regular maintenance of the structures, outside area and building
